People we meet in church
are still people.
They can lie, they can cheat
They can promise to be there
and never show.
They can offer their sympathies
yet turn their backs
They can swear to protect and
as quickly deny every word.
But when they do
it hurts the more, as we’ve
set them on a perch
and God is blamed for all the wrong
of those we meet in church.
